المستخلص

Behcet’s disease is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent oral aphthae and any of several systemic manifestations including genital aphthae, ocular disease, skin lesions, neurologic disease, vascular
disease, or arthritis.
Although the etiology is still unclear, some currently unknown triggering factor(s) in the presence of a genetic
susceptibility seem to play a major role in the pathogenesis of BD. Recently, some authors have suggested that BD is an autoinflammatory disorder (Gul, 2005) Whatever the triggering factor is, endothelium is the most likely target tissue with resulting vasculitis and/or thrombosis as the
consequences of inflammation.
Because of the unpredictable course of Behçet disease and the difficulty in management some researchers have tried
to discover the etiopathogenesis and consequently a possible therapy for this prolonged systemic disease.
Infectious agents, especially viruses, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of Behçet’s disease (BD). The aim of this study was to determine whether BD is associated with hepatitis C virus infection.
This study was done in order to elucidate the role of hepatitis viruses in the pathogenesis of Behçet’s disease
(BD),the study was done on 50 patients for each HCV antibodies, hepatitis C virus (HCV)-RNA was measured in the
sera of 25 patients with behcets disease (group A) and 25 patients with vasculitis.
